Harrismith – “Her Majesty’s Apology” -self-catering surprise
To make a reservation enquiry, click on the "reservation" button at the bottom of the page.
This 1000 hectare farm - “The Dam”- is situated in the borderlands of the Free State and Natal close to Harrismith on the Verkykerskop road and has an interesting and fascinating history.

While our Boer ancestor, Paul Bester, was interned in Ladysmith during the Anglo Boer War, the infamous Rimington's guides attacked his Free State Farm, turning out his wife and children, and burning down the house. After the war, as an apology, the British Crown rebuilt the homestead. It is this older wing of the house which has now been renovated for guests - hence the name - "Her Majesty's Apology".

The sandstone homestead has a mod/colonial feel. It's cool in summer, with a cosy fireplace for chilly Free State winters. It offers one double bedroom and two with single beds with shared bathroom with bath and shower as well as a fully equipped self-catering kitchen with fire-place. The family have lived in the district for generations and are keen cooks – this is a hot cycling spot and catered meals and picnic baskets can be pre-arranged – especially for tired cyclists and anybody so inclined.

This is a prime spot for birding and mountain biking
