Carnarvon-Loxton – The unique Old Stone Shed

The Old Stone Shed on the farm Osfontein between Carnavon and Loxton is just the place for the guest who wants absolute privacy and do not want to hear noisy cars or people, just the absolute quietness of a Karoo farm, surrounded with the veld. The Old Stone Shed used to be an old sheep shearing shed and has been converted into a self-catering unit providing a unique experience when staying in the Karoo. Built from stone, the shed has common reed ceilings and is equipped with electricity.

The house is self-catering with the necessary cutlery, bedding and towels being provided. The lounge area has a fireplace to add to the atmosphere and provide extra warmth in the Karoo winters. The bathroom is equipped with a wash basin, flushing toilet and a shower with hot water. The unit also has an outdoor shower.

Fires can be made outside and wood can be bought at the farmhouse. The farmhouse is within walking distance if anything is needed and also has a swimming pool where guests can cool off.

With all the wide open spaces, guests can go for long walks or mountain biking. Sitting outside you will see the incredible star filled Karoo sky at night, a must-see, awe-inspiring sight

Farm History: The farm was first measured in 1830 and the first farmer was Daniel Jacobs on 1 November 1838 – we thing that he built the corbelled house. Stegman’s farther, Lukas Petrus Lubbe, bought the farm in 1979

A bit about your hosts:
Stegman and Natasha married in 1079 and come from Carnarvon. They have 3 children. They renovated the corbelled house in 1997 and it is so popular that they decided to renovate another old stone shed (shearing shed) as a guest house The house is self-catering with the necessary cutlery, bedding and towels being provided (small and large)
