Luna Farmstay is a cozy air-conditioned cottage overlooking the De Kaap River in a beautiful garden shaded by huge mango trees in the 25 000 hectare Crock River Mountain Reserve at Kaapmuiden. Only 25 km from the Kruger National Park, it is the ideal destination to use as base to explore the Kruger and this beautiful part of the Lowveld at Malelane with all its tourist attractions. The cottage is on Cathie and Herman’s working paw-paw and vegetable farm “Excelsior” just off the N4 in the Reserve. The Reserve was formed in the nineties when 20 farms were consolidates into an eco reserve with access control. Guests have access to the mountain reserve with various game species such as rhinoceros, Kudu, Njala, Buffalo and various others. It is also a birders paradise offering home to some 100 species including raptures such as Fish and Black eagles. The Cottage has air-conditioning and is private but safe-close to the main farmstead in the same park like gardens. The Pool in the gardens offers superb views of the De Kaap River and surrounds and a drive up the mountain in the reserve spectacular views of the valley and further. Luna means "full moon" -- and this is really a spectacular experience.

Fishing In the deep pools of the De Kaap River and elsewhere in the district

Game Viewing Pre-arrange to visit the Mountain Reserve with various game species such as rhinoceros, Kudu, Njala, Buffalo, impala, red duiker and various others. Views from the mountain are spectacular

Bird Watching The De Kaap River running through the farm of 200 hectares makes this a birder’s paradise with more than 100 identified species, including Fish and Black eagles

Hiking Trails Hiking routes on in the conservancy along some of the oldest “pink” granite formations can be arranged. The Old Coach Road also offers a panoramic 4X4 and quad bike route

Kaapmuiden (Cape Mouth) is a small farming town situated at the confluence of the Kaap and Crocodile Rivers in Mpumalanga, South Africa. The farms in the region produce sugarcane, subtropical fruit and vegetables. The town began as a junction on the Pretoria - Delagoa Bay railway line.

Visit a sugar cane factory and citrus pack house. Your hosts will gladly take you on tours of their own farm as well as their paw-paw and banana pack house on the farm
The Menu
Breakfast: fruit, cereals, eggs, sausage (wors), porridge (pap) and home-baked bread. Light lunch or picnic basket: Fruit salad, quiche & salad. Supper: “Boerekos with a twist! – bobotie, chicken pie, venison pie, veggies in season (three course meal) Self-catering as well as full board available. Cathie’s restaurant on the farm -- the “Boulders Kitchen” -- is very popular and serves “Farm meals with a twist!”
