Sakkie and Magdel’s Rietpan Tented Camp on their game farm between Koster and Lichtenburg in Northwest offers an exciting break-away experience for young and old.

The 1400 hectare game farm has been converted from crop farming over many Years and today it is a conservation reserve with more than 28 species of game. Here you will find large numbers of kudu, eland, black impala, waterbuck, zebra and reindeer roaming the grasslands and bushveld. Each game drive is a unique experience with own excitement. The Tented Camp offers the ideal destination for families and groups of friends for up to 12, is pet friendly and guests are welcome to bring quads (or hire on the farm), drive along the 60 km game paths in own vehicles or go on guided open-vehicle drives with the hosts. Game Viewing Previously a cattle and maize farm, the 1400 hectare farm is now being transformed into a game farm and controlled bavaria with more than 28 game species such as kudu, waterbuck, eland, black springbuck, zebra, white blesbuck, ostriches, European bush pig, impala, duiker, reindeer and many others. Game hides strategically placed on farm

Other Activities Other activities include fishing for bass, hunting safaris, horse rides, rifle range for target shooting (rifles supplied), mountain biking (Bring your own bikes), rock pool and visits to the site where the Battle of Rietpan took place. Rietpan also has a shooting range for target shooting and a variety of guns are available on the farm. Guests can also visit one of the largest Friesian Horse Studs in the area, Groot Marico with its Marico Eye (clear fountain used for scuba diving) and diamond digging

Remarks: Rates on Request. The camp consists of two units with two beds each with shower and toilet facilities, a larger unit with six beds and shower with toilet and a chopper tent on sun deck with two single beds. There is also a comfortable fully equipped central kitchen area and all units are around a lapa – firewood and ice on the house. Solar panels with batteries for lights etc.

Rietpan’s Sports Bar and restaurant on the main farm is a popular meeting place for local farmers and the community and the adjacent shed has been beautifully transformed and decorated for weddings (including a draped chapel), conferences and parties for up to 400 people. There is also a play park for children and tame animals such as warthog in the garden of the guesthouse.

Visit the site of the Battle of Rietpan that took place on the farm in 1901(General Babington, General Smuts and General Kemp). Visit the Rietpan Caves on the farm – a fascination experience. A narrow entrance leads one to a huge hall with stalagmites and stalactites and enough room for some 300 people

Farm History: The Battle of Rietpan took place on the farm in 1901. A certain IPA Liebenberg came across the caves in the early 1900’s and mined it for dolomite in the depression years (1930).
