Madikwena Game Farm & Crocodile Ranch lies in the heart of the Groot Marico Bushveld in the North West Province. It is 80km away from the Royal Bafokeng Soccer Stadium and a similar distance to Sun City

Makikwena Game Farm is 350 hectares in extent and offers two fully equipped luxury self-catering chalets (and a tented camp for 12 see separate web page) nestling between Camelthorn trees. Each chalet has two bedrooms with two three quarter beds each, bathrooms (one with shower and the other with bath and shower) and beautifully decorated and fully equipped open plan lounge, dining and kitchen areas. Large covered stoeps overlooking the bush and braais complete the picture. A third chalet is in the process of completion.

Activities include game viewing, bird watching, biking and hiking. More than 430 species of birdlife have been spotted in the area. Game to view include steenbuck, duikers, eland, blouwildebees, impala, waterbuck, warthog, koedoe, redhartebees, blesbuck, jackals zebra, giraffe, ostrich, leopard and the many smaller mammels of the African bush.

Meals and refreshments are also served at the Croc Inn overlooking the crocodile breeding dam, which offers traditional country cooked meals using locally produced organic herbs and produce. Madikwena Croc Ranch has 450 breeder crocodiles and 1500 growing crocodiles.

Other Activities Groot-Marico is on the N4 between Swartruggens and Zeerust, en-route to Botswana. The town is located on the Marico River. The Groot-Marico region, in the northern part of the North West Province, borders Botswana.

Herman Charles Bosman -- Marico is possibly best known through the legendary character Oom Schalk Lourens and the evocative tales of the Marico Bushveld written by the sometimes notorious Herman Charles Bosman who taught in the area in 1926. .

Visit the local replica of the Bosman schoolhouse and pop into Santa & Eghet at the Information Centre on Paul Kruger street for more information on Herman Charles Bosman, over a tot of honey mampoer. .

The nearby Croc-Inn is a licensed-pub restaurant overlooking crocodiles from wooden deck. Traditional Sunday lunches. Croc-Feeding times 11.30 on Saturdays . (both by appointment only). It is the Ideal venue for functions, weddings & conferences. Venues are of educational value for schools & church groups.

Activities available in the area include hunting, nature walks, hiking, underwater scuba siving, swimming, horse riding, game drives, angling, Local mampoer (Moonshine) tasting, clay pigeon shooting and bird watching (mountain bikes and canoes can be arranged)

Crime is unknown at Madikwena and it is also a Malaria free area. Accommodation and activities tailor made for all age groups. Outings to Sun City can be arranged and also outings to nearby places that reflect the unique culture of the area. Guests can be collected from Oliver Tambo International Airport, overnight at The Willows Country Lodge in Pretoria and travel by road to Madikwena Game and Crocodile Ranch, a journey of two and a half hours
