FOUR PAWS: Lionsrock is the first Four Paws project in South Africa…an international animal welfare organization founded in Austria in 1988, with a vision of a world without animal suffering. The vision is achieved through the support of targeted project work and campaigns that ensure quick and direct assistance for animals in need.

Four Paws has successfully established large sanctuaries in Austria, Germany and Bulgaria for bears that were subjected to life abusive captivity.

An awareness regarding the plight of predators in South Africa that were being bred in captivity for a multi million rand hunting and tourism industry was heightened when Four Pas was approached by amongst others, various European Zoos to find appropriate homes for their predators.

FOUR PAWS SOUTH AFRICA – New laws regulating the industry in South Africa, should be implemented in 2008, and as a result may lead to many predators being confiscated or euthanized. Sanctuaries or other suitable habitats for these creatures will be necessary. As a culmination of these factors, on 1 February 2007, Four Paws commenced its first South African project -- Lionsrock.
