Another of the Hex River Valley’s jewels! The Grange B&B is situated in the small hamlet De Doorns some 140 km from Cape Town and 35 km from Worcester and offers some of the best views of the Valley and mountains. The guesthouse lies snugly on a table grape farm at the foothills of the Matroosberg mountain range (also famous for heavy snow in winter months) from where visitors can follow a footpath to the top of the mountain to an altitude of 2460 m. The farmstead has 4 bedrooms and can be divided in two units, each with own fully equipped kitchen, lounge with TV and two bedrooms. It is also available as one unit for larger families or groups. It is the ideal base to explore the Valley, the longest wine route in the world, Route 62, and various other attractions and recreational activities

THE LEGEND of the "Heks" of the Hex River Valley is a story about the beautiful Eliza Meiring, who was courted by many suitors. She eventually promised to marry the one that would pick her a disa flower from the surrounding Hex River Mountains. The admirer who captured her heart met a tragic death when he lost his footing whilst picking the flower and fell. Completely out of her mind with grief, Eliza spent a long, lonely period in the attic of the farm, Clovelly. One fateful moonlit night she jumped to her death through the attic window. The "witch" of the Hex River Valley still mourns for her long-lost love, especially when the moon lights up the mountains. Tourist attractions in the area.
Route 62: The Hex River Valley is situated on Route 62 (the longest wine route in the world!) between the Matroos and Quado Mountains, and is the largest producer of table-grapes in Southern Africa. Some of the major attractions in the Valley include the historical buildings and homesteads. During late autumn and early winter, the valley turns into a kaleidoscope of autumn colours - one of the most often photographed scenes in South Africa. The Hex River Mountains, which run along the entire length to the valley, are dominated by the Matroosberg Peak, or "Sailor Mountain" named after the shepherd, Klaas Matroos, who lived here. Some people believe the peak to be named after a rock resembling a sailor or "matroos" standing on the bow of a ship, which can be seen from a particular angle in the Valley.
