Farm History: The farm, Holfontein, on which Ouplaas Guesthouse is situated, has been part of the family since 1856 and is steeped in history and anecdotes from bygone years. After the Anglo-Boer War, the Coetzee family built the house where the guesthouse is today. Ouplaas Guesthouse, completed in 1906, was designed by Italian born architect and builder, Scribante. The guesthouse is a declared national monument. Those interested in the history of the farm, can also visit the family cemetery on the farm where Oupa Douw van der Merwe and other family members are buried.

A bit about your hosts:
Your hosts and owners Coert and Magdalena Coetzee have been living and working on the farm for the past 30 years. During the ongoing drought in those years, they opened the guesthouse in 1992 as an alternative source of income. Magdalena’s love of music, people, interior decorating and good food give a distinctive character and atmosphere to Ouplaas. The guesthouse was acclaimed as runner-up in the Old Mutual/Business Partners' Business of the Year Competition. Coert and Magdalena are B.Com and B.Mus graduates from Potchefstroom University, respectively. They are actively involved in the community and share their love of people and music. They have four sons. The tastefully decorated bedroom and ensuite bathroom
